BRITAIN:
An internet company’s research has revealed that holidaymakers can pay up to 75% more than necessary for travel insurance and that  Travel agents often take up to 60% commission on sales with some agents refuse to confirm holiday bookings until evidence of travel cover is produced. www.Screentrade.co.uk/   Three years ago, the Office of Fair Trading banned agents from insisting on their own insurance policies.


HONG KONG:  
The five star Peninsula Hotel is to have a helicopter service to and from the new Chek Lap Cokoa International Airport.  The one way twin Aerospatiale Squirrel service takes just 10 minutes and is priced at £652 for up to four passengers with hand luggage.
Additional items are transferred by a Peninsula vehicle at no extra charge.  For guests who prefer a more traditional mode of transfer, the hotel offers a £60 one way Rolls-Royce Silver Spur service, or they can try the 1934 Phantom Two which takes between 30 and 40 minutes.

AVIATION:
BRITISH AIRWAYS  is considering offering  its range of 'special' meals in its Club World business class Terrace departure lounges at New York,Washington and the US East Coast airports.  BA provides in-flight ethnic
catering in all its three classes by pre-booking.  As part of its highly successful pre-flight dining package BA could offer the facility on evening departures to the UK, allowing passengers to achieve a fullnight's sleep whilst in the air.  Passengers will need to pre-book 24

KISS AIR  is the name of a new British airline based at London-Heathrow expected to start operating in the spring.  The carrier says it has established slots, is substantially funded and will sell through the travel trade.  Kiss confirms that it is seeking its own Air Operators
Certificate and will operate Boeing 737-300/400s to destinations within
Europe.

CANADA:
The world's largest winter festival opens in Quebec on Friday (January 26th.) The Kellogg Winter Carnaval runs for 17 days. Events include a Mardi Gras style parade, canoe races on the frozen St Lawrence, an Ice Palace and an international snow sculpture event. (Featured in detail in next edition of Worldrover.)

FLORIDA:
The world's tallest sand sculpture  appears on  Florida’s Beach as the St.Petersburg/Clearwater area unveils its salute to the Super Bowl: a football-field-sized sand sculpture featuring helmets of all the NFL teams. Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records will be on-hand to authenticate bid..  The sculpture will be available for viewing daily with a sunset laser show on beautiful Sand Key in Clearwater Beach each evening from January 25 through Super Bowl Sunday, Jan. 28.
