CANADA:
The world's largest winter festival opens in Quebec on January 26th. The
Kellogg Winter Carnaval runs for 17 days. Events include a Mardi Gras
style parade, canoe races on the frozen St Lawrence, an Ice Palace and
an international snow sculpture event.
BRITAIN:
The Trading Standards Institute has called on holiday travel firms to
end "discount madness" in which customers "are lured by
impossibly low prices". Several criminal investigations are
currently being undertaken by Trading Standards Departments around the
country into the use of "fluid pricing" by some of the larger
travel firms. Some may fall foul of the Consumer Protection Act because
for a discount to be legal the brochure price must have been held for 28
consecutive days in the last six months. A meeting is being organised by
the Trading Standards Institute, the Local Authorities Co-ordinating
Body on Food and Trading Standards (LACOTS) and the Association of
British Travel Agents with leading tour operators.
CALIFORNIA:
San Diego's major attractions are gearing up for the spring season with
exciting new exhibits, special events and activities. The excitement is
building at LEGOLAND California, which unveils its newest ride, The LEGO
TECHNIC Test Track, in April (date TBA). Riders on this fun and wild
ride, will thrill to learn principles of acceleration, breaking and maneuverability.
FLORIDA:
The
world's tallest sand sculpture appears
on Florida’s Beach as the
St.Petersburg/Clearwater area unveils its salute to the Super Bowl: a
football-field-sized sand sculpture featuring helmets of all the NFL
teams. Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records will be on-hand
to authenticate bid.. The
sculpture will be available for viewing daily with a sunset laser show
on beautiful Sand Key in Clearwater Beach each evening from January 25
through Super Bowl Sunday, Jan. 28.
