probably one of the wildest parties you'll ever go to,
running from
24th to 27th Feb.

organised by samba schools. Musicians tune up in the surrounding
bars
and then dancers follow them through the streets.

the worlds largest Winter Carnival
CHILL OUT AT QUEBEC
The worlds largest
winter festival is a kaleidoscope of events ranging from the fancy dress
of aMardi
Gras parade to the excitement of Dog
Sled Racing through the streets. Jollying the whole thing along is
the central figure is a giant snowman called Bonhomme
who is much cuddled by children - and adults.
The big canoes of the carnival race dodge between ice floes on the St Lawrence
River. This
event is serious stuff and demands courage, even the car ferries have to
smash a path through it. They dislodge mini icebergs the size of cars.
A trip as a foot passenger
makes a great sightseeing bargain and
you get an excellent view of the city's fortifications
The streets of the original settlement around
Rue du Petit-Champlain
now
contain boutiques, galleries and restaurants.It beingCarnival time,
outside many of them are beautiful ice sculptures.
There is cool art on practically every street corner and an international snow carving event that
features:
For the visitor there are
excursions and at Valcartier you can go"snow-rafting"on
the "Tornado." It"s an eight passenger sliding boat that shoots down the slide
while others who are in even less control spin on inner tubes and crazy
carpets.
