the worlds largest Winter Carnival

CHILL OUT AT QUEBEC

The worlds largest winter festival is a kaleidoscope of events ranging from the fancy dress of a  Mardi Gras parade to the excitement of Dog Sled Racing through the streets. Jollying the whole thing along is the central figure is a giant snowman called Bonhomme who is much cuddled by children - and adults.

The big canoes of the  carnival race dodge between ice floes on  the St Lawrence River.  This event is serious stuff and demands courage, even the car ferries have to smash a path through it. They dislodge mini icebergs the size of cars.
A trip as a foot passenger makes a great sightseeing bargain and  you get an excellent view of the city's fortifications

The streets of the original settlement around
Rue du Petit-Champlain  now contain boutiques, galleries and restaurants.   It being Carnival time, outside many of them are beautiful ice sculptures.

There is cool art on practically every street corner and  an international snow carving event that features:

The Night of The Long Knives

For the visitor there are  excursions and at Valcartier you can go  "snow-rafting"  on the "Tornado."
It"s an eight passenger sliding boat that shoots down the slide while others who are in even less control spin on inner tubes and crazy carpets.
