Aviation: SKYMARK
AIRLINES, a Japanese carrier, is
introducing women-only seats on a number of
its
aircraft as some female passengers say
it's
too stressful sitting next to men.
Women who fly with Skymark will now be
able to request the seats for flights
between
Tokyo and Fukuoka in the south of the country.
From next month, 10 seats on each flight will
be
reserved for women aged 12 and over who find
it
more 'relaxing' to sit next to someone of
their
own gender. A Japanese rail company
recently
said it would start women-only night
trains
after complaints about unwanted attentions
from male passengers. http://www.skymark.co.jp

EMIRATES
is to provide every passenger
on its long haul flights with an exercise
device
proven to boost blood circulation in the legs.
Called Aerogym, it is an ingenious piece of
equipment
where the user presses down on an inflatable
footpad
which compresses the veins in the foot and
squeezes blood into the main veins in the
calf.
The pressure involved in squeezing the foot
causes
muscular contractions of the calf muscles
which, acting like a muscle pump,
promotes
the flow of blood through the main veins to
the heart.
The Aerogym was designed and developed by Paul
Richards,
a former British Airways' captain and
long haul pilot. http://www.emirates.com/pageair.asp
