Aviation:
SKYMARK AIRLINES,  a Japanese carrier, is 
introducing women-only seats on a number of its 
aircraft as some female passengers say it's 
too stressful sitting next to men.  
Women who fly with Skymark will now be
able to request the seats for flights between 
Tokyo and Fukuoka in the south of the country.  
From next month, 10 seats on each flight will be
reserved for women aged 12 and over who find it 
more 'relaxing' to sit next to someone of their 
own gender.  A Japanese rail company recently
said it would start women-only night trains 
after complaints about unwanted attentions from male passengers.  http://www.skymark.co.jp

Ferries: P&O Stena Line is to launch a new service.
From May 1 you'll be able to travel from Dover to Zeebrugge in Belgium on one of five daily sailings.
The crossing will take approximately four hours and there'll be an introductory fare of £89, 
rising to £150 as standard.

 

Argentina:   The First World Congress of Steam and Tourist Trains, will take place in the City of 
Ushuaia between 19th and 21st October 2001.

Aviation: EMIRATES  is to provide every passenger 
on its long haul flights with an exercise device 
proven to boost blood circulation in the legs.  
Called Aerogym, it is an ingenious piece of equipment 
where the user presses down on an inflatable footpad 
which compresses the veins in the foot and
squeezes blood into the main veins in the calf.  
The pressure involved in squeezing the foot causes 
muscular contractions of the calf muscles
which, acting like a muscle pump, promotes 
the flow of blood through the main veins to the heart.

Aviation: "Around the world flight" UNITED AIRLINES  has re-launched its London - Delhi service this week after a six year gap.  United is now the only airline to offer a genuine, one airline, around the world operation.  If you were to take the flight you would travel nearly 20,000 miles in 40 hours flying time.  The economy fare would be £1,249, plus airport taxes.  


HOLLAND:
'Floriade'  a world horticultural exhibition in the Netherlands, is held once every 10 years the event in 2002 will be the fifth. Floriade 2002 will run from mid-April to mid-October in the district of Haarlemmermeer, close to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and tourist centres like Amsterdam and Haarlem.  Floriade 2002 is expected to attract three million people from all over the world. 

Las Vegas:
Plans for a new London-themed hotel-casino in  are now underway. The 44-story resort (2,000+ rooms) will be built on the site of the recently imploded El Rancho Hotel on 
the Las Vegas Strip and will feature a 90,000-sq.ft. casino. 


Ecuador: British and Americans planning to travel to Ecuador will need to acquire a tourist visa from April 15. The new move means travellers will have to purchase a visa, which costs about $30, before entering the country.

 Disney is reckoned to have paid nearly $450mn to the  rights for two Winnie the Pooh books for 26 years. Disney is expected to incorporate the new Winnie the Pooh properties into their theme parks and merchandising 


BOEING Have dropped plans to build the 747X and have announced plans for  a new aircraft, dubbed "the sonic cruiser", with planned seating of 175-250.  It could lead to a family of aircraft carrying 100-300 passengers while cruising at Mach .95 to Mach .98, just  under the speed of sound.  The new plane, 15%-20% faster than most other commercial aircraft, also would have the potential to fly further, with
a range estimated at 10,350 miles.  The aircraft could be flying by 2006 or 2007. http://www.boeing.com

INFLIGHT E-MAIL: Virgin Atlantic Airways will become the first airline to offer e-mail and Internet facilities to all passengers from the end of the year. They will provide e-mail and Internet onboard Virgin Atlantic flights through seat-back television screens or passengers’ laptops.
Passengers will be able to send and receive e-mails from their laptop, access the Internet and send text messages via the seat-back video screen, all of which are then fed to the e-mail server.Richard Branson, chairman of Virgin Atlantic, said;"..unlike other airlines who focus solely on those in business class. Economy passengers will be able to e-mail friends and surf the web while business passengers will be able to remain connected and up to date with their e-mails throughout the flight.

AIRPORT WAITING: HEATHROW: In an effort get around the inevitable lines at airports this problem British
Airways are experimenting with the  "queue buster", a portable computer check-in device designed to help the late arriving passengers who are in a panic.   Check-in agents based in Heathrow Terminal 4 are donning cyber style equipment designed to deal with this problem.  Each "queue buster" has a keyboard worn on the arm, a head mounted mini display and a battery  on a belt.
