The world's largest Cruisferry, 'The Pride of Rotterdam,'  has been officially named by HM Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands at a ceremony on the River Maas. The ship can carry 250 cars and has a freight deck with a  capacity of 4.5 running kilometres. The vessel which can carry 1,360 passengers joins the P&O North Sea Ferries fleet of 17 ships and will  operate on the Hull to Rotterdam route.
Festivals in Europe include 'The procession of the Holy Blood'  in Bruges which takes place on the 24th of May.

The medieval parade through the ancient street provides an exciting spectacle for the whole family


Aviation:
BRITISH AIRWAYS  has inaugurated non-stop Boeing 777 services to  The Port of San Diego, in California, USA.
The new daily services are the first transatlantic non-stop operation in the history of San Diego and will open up the city for travel to and from Europe.  The flight time is 10hrs 20mins.  The airport also serves Palm Springs and much of

MARITIME HERITAGE FESTIVAL--APRIL 28 TO MAY 6

Ferries: P&O Stena Line has a new service.
You are now able to travel from Dover to Zeebrugge in Belgium on one of five daily sailings.
The crossing will take approximately four hours and there'll be an introductory fare of £89, 
rising to £150 as standard.

 

Argentina:   The First World Congress of Steam and Tourist Trains, will take place in the City of 
Ushuaia between 19th and 21st October 2001.


Aviation: "Around the world flight" UNITED AIRLINES  has re-launched its London - Delhi service this week after a six year gap.  United is now the only airline to offer a genuine, one airline, around the world operation.  If you were to take the flight you would travel nearly 20,000 miles in 40 hours flying time.  The economy fare would be £1,249, plus airport taxes.  


HOLLAND:
'Floriade'  a world horticultural exhibition in the Netherlands, is held once every 10 years the event in 2002 will be the fifth. Floriade 2002 will run from mid-April to mid-October in the district of Haarlemmermeer, close to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and tourist centres like Amsterdam and Haarlem.  Floriade 2002 is expected to attract three million people from all over the world. 

Las Vegas:
Plans for a new London-themed hotel-casino in  are now underway. The 44-story resort (2,000+ rooms) will be built on the site of the recently imploded El Rancho Hotel on 
the Las Vegas Strip and will feature a 90,000-sq.ft. casino.

INFLIGHT E-MAIL:
Virgin Atlantic Airways will become the first airline to offer e-mail and Internet facilities to all passengers from the end of the year. They will provide e-mail and Internet onboard Virgin Atlantic flights through seat-back television screens or passengers’ laptops.
Passengers will be able to send and receive e-mails from their laptop, access the Internet and send text messages via the seat-back video screen, all of which are then fed to the e-mail server.Richard Branson, chairman of Virgin Atlantic, said;"..unlike other airlines who focus solely on those in business class. Economy passengers will be able to e-mail friends and surf the web while business passengers will be able to remain connected and up to date with their e-mails throughout the flight..

AIRPORT WAITING: HEATHROW: In an effort get around the inevitable lines at airports this problem British
Airways are experimenting with the  "queue buster", a portable computer check-in device designed to help the late arriving passengers who are in a panic.   Check-in agents based in Heathrow Terminal 4 are donning cyber style equipment designed to deal with this problem.  Each "queue buster" has a keyboard worn on the arm, a head mounted mini display and a battery  on a belt.
