ITALY: Italian strikes could create travel woes. A series of planned transportation strikes are threatening to disrupt
travel throughout Italy. April 1: Four-hour air traffic controllers strike at Milan's Malpensa airport; 10 AM–6 PM. April 14: Airport baggage handlers and catering personnel plan to strike at Milan's Linate (LIN) and Malpensa (MXP) airports from 10 AM to 6 PM. Flight delays are possible. USA: World Trade Centre. New York A design concept for the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site (212/962-2300, www.renewnyc.com) was selected in February 2003 after a worldwide search. The proposal, Studio Daniel Libeskind's "Memory Foundation," features five towers, a Memorial Garden, an Interpretive Museum, new cultural facilities, a performing arts center, a hotel, retail and office space. The largest tower, at 1,776 feet, would be the tallest in the world and creates a skyline that reaffirms the majesty of lower Manhattan as the heart of New York and the world's second home. USA: New US airline to put "fun" into flying Mr. Robert Brooks, the restaurant entrepreneur who has his eyes on the sky. Brooks makes most of his money from the Hooters restaurant chain. Now Brooks has launched Hooters Air. The airline, he says, "aims to put the fun back into flying". And get this, from the press release – "Hooters Air 737s will be manned by a flight crew consisting of two pilots (wearing traditional pilot uniforms), three flight attendants (wearing khaki pants and orange Hooters Air polo shirts) and two Hooters Girls (wearing traditional Hooters Restaurant uniforms)...The Hooters Girls will be restaurant employees who will assist with hostess and food/beverage function. At the moment though it's only flying between golf-capital Myrtle Beach and Atlanta or Newark.
