TUK TUK TO THE ROAD.
Like cabs, Bangkok's tuk tuks are a method of travelling around a bustling city, only with one set-back.
The three-wheelers look about as road-savvy as a Robin Reliant.
Girls Antonia and Jo, decided to take their tuk-tuk further.
Imagine a motorbike with a sofa for pillion seat. It does not sound very comfortable.
Anyone who has hailed a
"Tuk Tuk" as these three wheel taxis that are affectionately known in India or Thailand will know that comfort and safety do not immediately spring to mind.
As far as springs go you get a fairly bumpy ride. Yet two girl decided to drive one all the way from Bangkok in Thailand all the way to Brighton in Southern England.Thats a long way, some 12,561 miles. Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent, a television producer and Jo Huxster, a medical student did it to raise awareness and some cash for "Mind" a charity that deals with mental health issues.
Before they left Bankok a lot of extra work was done to soup-up their vehicle, with sound system, extra special breaking, and added suspension.
On their bright pink mean machine they single-handedly traversed mountains, jungles and gorges, while passing remote villages and tribes.Their book "Tuk Tuk To The Road" makes fascinating reading. It is in the form of a diary with each girls account of the trip alternating as they take you through the journey.
There was frustration when the speedy little 3 wheeled machine was confined to rough tracks and denied access adjacent fast motorways and almost everywhere they stopped crowds gathered, facinated by "Ting Tong," their bright pink tuk tuk.
The three-wheelers look about as road-savvy as a Robin Reliant.
From Bankok to Brighton.
