AIRBUS ORDERS

European aircraft maker Airbus has announced a firm order with Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) for 22 A320s, and a letter of intent with Taiwan’s largest carrier China Airlines for 14 A350-900s plus six on option.
“The A320s will enable Saudia to meet rising passenger demand and expectations,” said director general of Saudi Arabian Airlines Khalid A. Almolhem.
China Airlines will start using its A350s from 2015 on long-haul routes to Europe, Australia and the US, providing passengers with non-stop services.
Meanwhile Boeing has confirmed its revised schedule for the new 787 Dreamliner, which will be delivered in November or December of 2008. This is six months behind its original schedule, but the company – despite still “ironing out significant supply-chain wrinkles" - says it plans to deliver 109 Dreamliners by the end of 2009.
Airbus has undertaken a costly redesign of its A350 so that it can compete with its American competitor’s 787 – but it will not enter service until 2013.

TEMPELHOF WILL CLOSE

Berlin’s city centre airport Tempelhof will close on 31 October 2008.
Just ten minutes from the city centre, Tempelhof is ideally situated for business travellers, and the European Business Aviation Association, which has been busy petitioning the public to save Tempelhof, said the announcement was a “tragedy” - but that it would fight on.
“This has come as a bit of a shock,” said president Brian Humphries. “We’re still going to fight to keep it open. We’ve got more than 100,000 signatures so far, and we have to get 170,000 by February. Tempelhof is a very important national asset.”
Templehof was the world’s first commercial airport, built in 1923. Its 1,000m (3,280ft)-long terminal was once the biggest building in the world, and British and US aircraft used its airstrips to land supplies during the Berlin airlift following the Second World War.

FRANCE CELEBRATES THE 130TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JOURNEY
"TRAVELS WITH A DONKEY IN THE CEVENNES" BY R.L. STEVENSON.

In 2008 it will be the 130th anniversary of Robert Lewis Stevenson’s trip to the Cevennes. Robert Lewis Stevenson was a Scottish novelist poet and travel writer and a leading representative of Neo-Romanticism in English Literature. On the 22nd September 1878 he set off on a journey in the Cevennes. His walk took 12 days and 220km from Monastier sur Gazeille to Saint Gard with Monastine his stubborn donkey. In 1879 his book Travels with a donkey in the Cevennes was published. The trek labelled GR70 retraces his journey covering landscapes of valleys, forests and farm lands from the Haute-Loire in l’Auvergne to La Lozère in the Languedoc Roussillon and also l’Ardeche in Rhone-Alpes. T
his trek takes you on an unforgettable trip of beautiful sceneries, a wildlife adventure and also gastronomic discoveries with the typical Cevennes dish of L’Aligot. L’Aligot is made of melted tome cheese blended into potato purée with garlic and needs a special preparation of hours of mixing and turning to give it that smooth elastic texture.

The Association of "Sur le chemin de RL Stevenson" will be commemorating this anniversary with many events and festivals especially during the official anniversary between the 22nd September and 3rd October.
