Tuesday 20th March.

The Annual General Meeting was held.
There was lively discussion of suggestions. The committee agreed to study in detail and provide options for the membership to consider during the first two meetings of the new session.

The existing committee was largely persuaded to remain in office with Michael Barron being elected as the new Chairman. John Tully was thanked and complimented on his work in the role during a period in which the memebership grew considerably. John will remain on the committee as an ordinary member and be joined by Dave Sanderson and Clive McGuinness.

Membership fees for the next season will remain the same,
Adult £22.00 and Junior £11.00

14th February ......................Table top photography.

Members arrived at the club to find wine and smarties laid out for them. They were there to be enjoyed as part of a practical evening and to be photographed, not eaten

Bob Craig and Maggie Jary had arranged a series of imaginative set ups for table top photograpy.
The event was well attended and much enjoyed.

7th FebruarySpeaker Geoffrey Bradford on the Open College of the Arts.

Having met Geoffrey earlier in the season when he came to judge a competition
it was a pleasure to welcome him back


We had a fascinating evening in which he explained what is involved in studying for
an MA degree in photography with the
Open College of the Arts.

We were given an insight into
the four years of assignments and written work required to obtain the 360 credits required to complete the course.

After his interesting lecture there was an opportunity to inspect some of his work
and the study notes outlining various tasks.

24th January

on any subjet.

Tuesday 13th December

 

"Basic image editing using
Photoshop and Elements.”

A workshop evening was held by
John Peters in which he gave excellent tips on the use of image editing software.

Study notes were provided covering work flow, and many of the improved techniques avalable with the digitization of photography.

 

 

 

 

Tuesday 6th December

The first projected image competition of the season was well supported with some 90 pictures being entered.

Tuesday 29th November

"Variation on a Theme"

With the hall at East Ord decorated for Christmas it seemed a good time to be looking back over the seasons. Members were invited to enter a set of three pictures illustrating
"Spring, Summer and Autumn"

Jim Walker judged the competition. First place went to Maggie Jarry for her excellent food and drink images.
Peter Carr was placed second, and Ronnie Tait third.

Tuesday 22nd November
An illustrated talk was given by Malcolm Kus

Quality prints served up with a generous measure of humor was what members enjoyed when Malcom Kus, guided us through an excellent collection of photographs.
With superb timing and a distinctive midlands acccent he gave witty comment on each one.
The hazards faced in photographing motor racing and elephant seals were brought to life and we learned that a horses rear end was among the images that inspired him.

He will be back with us to judge a competition on the 21st of Februrary, don't miss it!

Tuesday 15th November

We had a new venture for the club, a "knock out" competition.
Twenty seven members each entered two A4 prints. They were judged in pairs, voted for by a show of hands.
It was a closely fought thing and after eliminting some excellent photographs we were left with the winners

Tuesday 8th November.................. KNOW YOUR LENSES or ("prepare to meet thy zoom!")

In what almost amounted to a master class, Paul Marshall delved into the power and limitation of lenses.
From wide angle to telephoto he explained how to juggle the various lenses to best effect.

Tuesday 1st November.

Thirteen members took part in the Sunday Shoot on the 9th of October and struggled with difficult lighting conditions. The pictures taken were judged by Colin Smurthwaite

Tuesday 25th October

An open evening was held with member's pictures being projected and a large number of photographs from the 1st print competition and the recent library exhibition being set out to view.

Tuesday 18th October

Working from prepared notes Geoffery Bradford gave helpful advice on over eighty pictures entered in the 1st Print competition of the current season

Mentioning that the club was generally strong on the composition of the photographs he singled a few out that would have benifited from having more space around them on larger mounts.

Tuesday 11th October

It was a free evening during which the resizing of images for the projected competitions was explained.

Digital images should be in the following size and format:-
Must be sized to 1024x768 pixels maximum for landscape format,
Must be sized to 768 pixels maximum height for portrait format.
Must be in JPEG format. You do not have to change the resolution.

Michael Barron demonstrated one method of manipulating the sizes of images using Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.

Members also brought along some 84 prints for entry in the following weeks "First Print Competition"
With the growth of interest the number of pictures being submitted may become too many to handle in an evening
It has been decided that entries to subseqent competitions will be limited to four pictures each, instead of the current six.

Sunday 9th October ............. ...LADIES IN RED TRIGGER SECURITY ALERT.

Police picked up security camera images of club member Anne Richardson, complete with camera and tripod at the Berwick Station.
They contacted the station master who asked her to leave the platform. At this point another red coated lady, Maggie Jary, was also spotted clicking away from the railway bridge. Apparently you are not allowed to take pictures on the station without permission.
They were part of the club group tackling the "Sunday Shoot." It took place between 10am to 12 noon under challenging gray skies. Pictured below a few of the members wait to have their allotted five pictures loaded onto John Tully's laptop for the competition which will be judged on Tuesday 1st November.

Tuesday 4th October

Show & tell – 5 Minutes Of Fame.

Members were invited to bring a short sequence of images for projection and we were treated to a fascinating mix of techniques.
Maggie Jary, who is a food stylist illustrated the various stages of a photo shoot at a bar-b-cue on Cocklaw beach. The final composite picture produced of seafood on over a flaming grill, was excellent and truly mouth watering.
Sound and images came together in audio visual presentations in which Derek Hood showed the sumptuous grounds of Cragside set to Mozart's Clarinet Concerto and Allan Rogers gave us scenes from a motorbike trip backed by stirring Scottish music.
Trevor Weddell took to the shores to show how using long exposures could work magic with fast flowing water. At the other extreme, coloured light and fast electronic flash enabled Tracy Beatt to freeze time and catch amazingly surreal pictures of water drops in free fall.
John Peters, a highly experienced new member finished evening with a comprehensive lecture on the techniques he uses in landscape photography.

Club Exhibition at Berwick Library

With the exhibition finally open we were able to display fifty fine photographs representing the work of practically everyone in the club.

The library staff tell us that the display is being enthusiastically received and that enquires are made by people interested in purchasing prints.

Tuesday 27th September

Club members had quite a busy evening selecting from the eighty pictures entered just which ones would be used in the exhibition to be held in the Library.

The display will be mounted on Friday evening and the event will run from Saturday 1st October until Friday 21st.

Tuesday 20th September.

Some twenty-five members took part in a discussion on "rules and class definitions"

With the aid of projected images advice was given on how pictures may fit into the various competition categories.
"Confused, confounded and clarified" are the words best used to describe the lively to and fro of the discussion when our president James Walker steered the debate towards a common understanding.
The date for the Sunday Shoot was set as 9th October.
