Welcome to the Berwick and District Camera Club website.
We are a small but friendly club with members of all ages

The programme includes talks by talented photographers. Advice given by judges in the slide and digital image competitions can help you develop your skill.

Meetings are held in the Village Hall, East Ord on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm and the season runs from September to March.

On Sunday 1st August.
Bring your camera and join fellow members for a visit to the Heatherslaw Light Railway


There should be plenty of photo opportunities.
We suggest catching the 12 noon train from Heatherslaw to Etal. Coming back the train runs on the half hour up until 4.30 so you can linger a while there for pictures.

Etal has it's14th century castle, thatched cottages, pub, tea room and wood turner near the river. It is a 6.4km round trip and at Hetherslaw there is a working watermill, the Granary cafe and on exhibition two model railways in the railway room.



The return ticket cost is Adult £6.00, Senior Citizen £5.00

Getting there. Heatherslaw is 12 miles south of Berwick, and on the B6354. From the A1 follow signs for Ford and Etal.

Trophies were presented at the
Berwick Camera Club's
Annual Dinner,
by the club's president,
James T Walker, FRPS.



 
 

The over all club championship was won by Ron McCombe who in addition to winning the Natural History and Record classes had the top score for Digital Images.


The award for the top score in Digital Prints
went to Allan Rogers

Michael McAskill won cups for both the Pictorial and the Landscape classes.
The trophy for Illustrative work went to Andrew Renton
and the Portrait class cup was won by Michael Barron.


John Tully won a Rose Bowl for pictures of
The Borders and a cup for a panel of photographs.
Robin Simpson received the Jimmy Johnston Trophy for Best Black & White Print


The Club's work can currently be seen at the Hayloft Gallery in Paxton House
in an exhibition which continues until May 2nd.

JAMES JOHNSTONE MEMORIAL TROPHY COMPETITION
 
 

ON THE 19TH OF JANUARY MEMBERS ENTERED BLACK AND WHITE PRINTS AND VOTED FOR THE BEST .
ROBIN SIMPSON TOOK BOTH FIRST AND SECOND PLACES WITH PICTURES OF A WINTER TREE AND A CHURCH.
THIRD EQUAL WERE JOHN TULLY WITH A PICTURE OF BOATS AND A BOB CRAIG WITH A PORTRAIT.


 
THE OTHER BERWICK CAMERA CLUB
 

WE HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM ROSIE APPELTON IN AUSTRALIA, SHE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE BERWICK VIEWFINDERS CAMERA CLUB AND SHE INVITES US TO LOOK AT THEIR NEW WEBSITE.
IT REALLY IS AN EXCELLENT SITE, WITH GREAT PICTURES AND AN INTERESING PROGARM OF EVENTS.

ALTERED IMAGES

ON THE 15th OF DECEMBER PETER CLARKE GAVE A THOUGHT PROVOKING TALK ON THE USE OF RAW FILES AND DEMONSTRATED OF JUST A FEW OF THE FACILITIES IN THE PHOTOSHOP PROGRAM. IT WAS CERTAINLY A STARTING POINT FOR FOR IMPROVING THE IMAGES WE TAKE.

PETER ECCLES KEPT A WEATHER EYE OPEN TO CAPTURE THIS PANEL OF BLACK AND WHITE PICTURES.

 

 

ON THE 8TH OF DECEMBER JOE PAYNE SPOKE ENTERTAININGLY ON HIS EXPERIENCES AND THE TECHNIQUES EMPLOYED DURING HIS CAREER AS A LOCAL PRESS PHOTOGRAPHER.
HE ALSO JUDGED THE COMPETITION TO PRODUCE A PANEL OF PICTURES WITH A MATCHING THEME

The entries were placed 1st - John Tully, 2nd - Peter Eccles,
3rd - Paul Marshall, 4th - Bob Craig.

AV & IMAGE WORKSHOP
ON THE 1ST OF DECEMBER AN AUDIO-VIDEO AND PROJECTED IMAGE WORSHOP WAS HELD IN PLACE OF A SCHEDULED TALK - CONTRIBUTIONS BY ALLAN ROGERS, ENID TAYLOR, CLAIRE THACKRAY AND JOHN TULLY WERE WELL RECEIVED.

CAROLYN MCGREGGOR'S PICTURE OF A BEDOIUN GIRL WITH A BUCKET TOOK FIRST PLACE IN THE PORTRAIT SECTION OF THE FIRST PRINT COMPETITION IN THE 2009-10 SEASON.

Taking top marks in the different catagories were, John Tully, Ron McCombe, Allan Rogers, Carolyn McGregor, Robin Simpson.

ON THE 17TH OF NOVEMBER IN A WELL ATTENDED WORKSHOP SESSION THE CLUB SET ABOUT MASTERING TABLE TOP PHOTOGRAPHY

RON'S PICTURE COMES TOP OF THE PECKING ORDER
IN THE BORDER NFU'S 2009 AGRI COMPETITION AT THE
GALASHEILS CAMERA CLUB

IT WAS RON MCCOMBE'S IMAGE WHICH WON THE BEST PICTURE IN THE COMPETITION. IT WON THE BEST DIGITAL IMAGE IN THE COMPETITION AND THEN WENT AGAINST THE BEST PRINT IN THE COMPETITION AND ULTIMATELY WON THE BEST OVERALL PICTURE IN THE COMPETITION

THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN IN SKELEFTEA WHICH IS IN NORTH EAST SWEDEN. IT WAS A OPPORTUNIST PICTURE, THE BIRD LANDED ON THE TREE IN FRONT OF THE HIDE FOR ABOUT FIVE SECONDS.

THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE THE HIDE WAS -25° AT LUNCHTIME.

ON THE 10th OF NOVEMBER THE PLEASENT VIEWING OF SOME FIFTY IMAGES BY CLUB MEMBERS RESULTED IN THE SELECTION OF TEN PICTURES (AND TWO RESERVES) FOR SUBMISSION TO THE BORDER BATTLE COMPETITION .

MOUNTING SUCCESS



ON THE 20th OF OCTOBER BOB CRAIG GAVE A DEMONSTRATION ON THE VARIETY OF WAYS THAT INDIVIDUAL PHOTOGRAPHS CAN BE MOUNTED AND JAMES WALKER SHOWED HOW EFFECTIVE A PANEL DISPLAY CAN BE.


 HIGH STANDARD IN PROJECTED IMAGE COMPETITION.
 
VISITING JUDGE, IAN FULLERTON, WAS WELL PLEASED WITH THE QUALITY OF THE WORK SUBMITTED FOR THE 'FIRST PROJECTED IMAGES' COMPETITION ON 13th OCTOBER.
TAKING TOP MARKS IN THE DIFFERENT CATAGORIES WERE,
ENID TAYLOR, BOB CRAIG, RON McCOOMBE, JOHN TULLY AND

RON GIVES US A BRILLIANT NIGHT WITH THE BIRDS
ON THE 6th OF OCTOBER NO FEWER THAN A HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SPECIES OF BIRD FLITTED ON TO THE CLUB'S SCREEN.
RON McCOMBE GAVE AN ILLUSTRATED TALK ON THE BIRDS THAT HE HAD PHOTOGRAPHED IN RONDEAU AND PELEE IN ONTARIO.
MOST WERE MIGRATING AND ALMOST ALL WERE BRIGHTLY COLOURED.
THE SOUND OF THE BIRD CALLS ADDED TO THE PLEASURE OF VIEWING SOME WONDERFULLY CRAFTED PICTURES.



A TOUCH OF CLASS WITH COLIN SMURTHWAITE
ON THE 29th of SEPTEMBER THE COMPETITION SECRETARY,
COLIN SMURTHWAITE RAN A HELPFUL PRACTICAL SESSION COVERING THE COMPETITION RULES AND DEFINED JUST WHAT TYPE OF PICTURES CAN BE ENTERED IN THE DIFFERENT CLASSES.
(n.b. the next competition is on 13th October)

The club's winter programme started again at East Ord Village Hall on the 22nd of September.


THE CLUB HAD A SUCCESSFUL SUMMER EVENT ON THE 2nd OF JUNE.
IT TOOK THE FORM OF A FIELD TRIP TO BOWSDEN WHERE, ANDY DURAN
AND ERYN TAIT OF THE BORDERS SCHOOL OF FALCONRY DISPLAYED OWLS
AND A FLYING KESTREL.
IT TURNED OUT TO BE A MOST ENJOYABLE EVENING AND JUDGING BY
THE NUMBER OF PICTURES TAKEN A SQUADRON OF BIRD PICTURES
MAY APPEAR IN FUTURE NATURAL HISTORY COMPETITIONS.
 
 

THERE WERE MANY FAVOURABLE COMMENTS LEFT IN THE VISITORS' BOOK
AFTER BERWICK AND DUNS CAMERA CLUBS WORK WAS EXHIBITED
AT PAXTON HOUSE IN APRIL AND MAY
