Pictorial:
Any subject that makes a picture which gives a pleasing or artistic interpretation.


Portraits & People:
A picture of a person, especially the face. A portrait should attempt to show something of the charactor and/or mood of the subject. The choice of lighting and background should compliment the subject


Record:
A true reproduction of an object. Photography used purely for the purpose of making a record conveying maximum detail and information about a subject. Pictorial content is of secondary importance.

llustrative:
(Sometimes called Photo-Journalism)
A picture providing an explanation of something happening, or people employed in an activity or in general movement.

Landscape:
That portion of land/sea/sky which the eye can comprehend in a single view. i.e. a pictorial representation of the actual scene.
Note: A lot of landscapes could be entered in the Pictorial Class, the choice is up to the author.

 

Natural History:
Birds, animals, fish, insects, plants flowers and geological specimens may be entered in this class but it is preferred that artificial objects do not appear. Close up photography may be used provided that the subject may be identified.

COMPETITION RULES

GENERAL
1) Photographs (monochrome or colour) may be trade processed but must be the original work of the competitor. Laser and inkjet prints are permitted. Computer enhancement is permissable but must have been done personally.

2) Reproduction of an other author,s work is not eligible.

3) Photographs may only be shown once in STANDARD competitions, but may be used again in "SPECIAL" or "INTER-CLUB" competitions.

4) All prints must be mounted . The longest edge of the print itself must be at least 7 inches. The longest edge of a mount must not exceed 20 inches.

5) All prints (and slides) must bear a TITLE and specify the CLASS entered. Slide should show the name of the competitor. Prints should NOT bear a name as this can embarrass Judges who know members.

6) Slides should have a spot on the bottom left hand corner of the mount when viewed the right way up.

7 Once prints have been entered they will be laid out for judges to view. Members are asked not to approach the prints until the competition is over - when all prints will be laid out for inspection.

STANDARD COMPETITIONS

1) Photographs must not have appeared in any previous STANDARD COMPETITION.

2) Photographs may be entered in any of the following classes
LANDSCAPE
-------------PORTAITURE----------- ILLUSTRATIVE
PICTORIAL
----------------NATURAL HISTORY--RECORD

3) A maximum of six photographs may be entered in a competition, a maximum of two in each section.

4) ONE POINT will be awarded per entry, plus FOUR POINTS for first place, (always awarded). THREE POINTS for second place (five or more entries) and two points for third place (ten or more entries) in each class.

5) Trophies will be awarded to the members having the highest number of points in the different categories. MONOCHROME PRINTS, COLOUR PRINTS and PROJECTED IMAGES. Trophies will also be awarded for the best entry in each class during the season.
