THE ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS EXPERIENCE IN NEW YORK THE RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR
CELEBRATES 75 YEARSThere is no better City in which to celebrate and enjoy Christmas than New York, but to make your experience complete the Radio City Christmas Spectacular is an absolute must for visitors to the Big Apple.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular is an annual Christmas show performed at Radio City Music Hall, known around the world as “the showplace of the nation.” It’s an enchanting Christmas extravaganza offering the ultimate in festive fun and entertainment for young and old alike.
The Radio City Rockettes will dazzle onstage with gorgeous costumes and their famous eye-high kicks. Traditional Christmas songs add to the atmosphere, along with the addition of new favourites, energetic dancing, graceful ice-skating and spectacular snow scenes. And who else but Father Christmas to take you on a journey travelling across the Manhattan skyline over a dazzling New York city at night!
The Christmas Spectacular celebrates 75 years this year, and to mark this momentous occasion every aspect of the show has been re-imagined and enhanced; with the addition of brand new scenes, brand new original songs and brand new dazzling costumes for the Radio City Rockettes, the world’s most famous precision dance troupe.
The 75th celebration has been two years in the making, creating the most dynamic Christmas celebration, which encompasses all the magic, warmth and show-stopping elements of the Christmas Spectacular. All this is performed in a magical Christmas setting which envelopes you as soon as you walk through the doors of the legendary theatre.“We want the audience to feel part of the show the minute they walk through the doors at Radio City, we’ve created an entirely immersive experience this year that captures the warmth and magic of Christmas like never before” said Jonathan Hochwald, executive vice president of productions, MSG Entertainment NY.
In addition to brand new scenes, Rockette performance numbers, and new costumes, this year’s production features breath-taking special effects on-stage, including fireworks that light up the New York skyline and Santa flying over the Great Stage. The world’s largest flying indoor LED screen, which was introduced for the first time last year, will feature brand new original content and stunning effects which will capture the magic of Christmas at Radio City.
As the stars of this legendary New York holiday production, the Radio City Rockettes move this year’s show forward as they showcase their signature precision dance style. Along with Rockette favourites, including “the 12 days of Christmas”, the talented dancers will perform an unforgettable production number set in Times Square, lighting up the New York skyline with a glittering fireworks display on-stage.
Santa Claus also takes the audience on a journey from New York to the North Pole, where a spectacular 25-foot high workshop unfolds full of Christmas toys. This larger than life production set becomes the backdrop to a high-energy tap routine featuring the Rockettes as rag dolls.
Scene after scene appears before the audience, each one offering a captivating element of Christmas. “The Living Nativity” and “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers,” traditional fan favourites since the show began in 1933, still remain a vital part of the show.
Since it was introduced in 1933 the Christmas Spectacular has grown to become America’s number one Christmas production and a family holiday tradition for New Yorkers and tourists alike, with over a million people visiting Radio City each year.
Over the past 75 years, the Christmas Spectacular has entertained more than 62 Million patrons, making it the most beloved holiday show in the world! Record crowds are expected for the 75th edition, which is sure to be the best Christmas Spectacular production ever.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes will run from 9 November to 30 December 2007, including Christmas day with multiple performances each day.
